FAQ: LegacySO in 3D Mode

23rd June 2025

What was that? LegacySO in 3D? Don’t mind if I do! Read on for instructions on how to enable 3D mode for LegacySO, based on the 3D remesh package from FreeSO’s original run.

Bookcases, in 3D!

Requirements:

  • The latest version of the FreeSO 3D remesh package (available here)
  • Basic understanding of Windows files (zip, etc)
  • 5-10 minutes of your time

How to enable 3D mode:

  1. Close your copy of LegacySO
  2. Download the latest version of the FreeSO 3D remesh package
  3. Extract the contents to your downloads folder (or wherever you want)
  4. Find your LegacySO game folder (where you launch LegacySO.exe)
  5. Navigate to ‘Content’ -> ‘MeshReplace’
  6. Empty the contents of this folder (you will be replacing it with the Remesh Package)
  7. Move the contents from the ‘MeshReplace’ folder that you downloaded earlier into your game’s ‘MeshReplace’ folder
  8. Create a new shortcut for LegacySO.exe (If on Windows 11 this is right click -> Show More Options -> Create Shortcut)
  9. Edit the shortcut and in the ‘Target’ path add -3d (it’s important that the ‘d’ in 3d is lowercase)
  10. Launch the game from your new shortcut
  11. If everything worked, your game will now be in 3D!

To revert from 3D to 2D, launch the game from the .exe or make a shortcut without the -3d mode applied.

Here's what setting up your shortcut looks like (note the -3d at the end of 'Target')

If you run into any issues, reach out to a team member on the LegacySO Discord. Although 9/10 times these instructions will work, 100% of the time.
